Under 12 Boys BV Country Championship Campaign

Last weekend saw our Under 12 boys 1 make the trek up to Bendigo for 3 days of action packed basketball.

They were greeted by fierce competition and suffered 3 losses on the first day to Maffra, Geelong and Macedon. Fortunately, they were able to persevere with the boys skill and poise beginning to shine through for the rest of the tournament as they were able to bounce back and only drop one game to hosts Bendigo on making it all the way to the Division 2 Grand Final.

Those unsure on how the Championships work, effectively the first two days are grading games before a knockout tournament on the final day with divisions of 8 teams.

In the Grand Final the Steelers had to match up against a good Echuca team, the pressure was there from the opening tip and the boys gave it their all but ultimately the pirates were able to make more shots and get more stops when it mattered most. It was a close game all the way through with Echuca going on a quick run to finish off the game run away winners 43-29.

Coach Jalen Hema had the following to say "Ultimately we fell just short, but the boys showed amazing heart and fight through 9 intense games and made Western Port proud. The lessons learnt both on and off the court will be invaluable going forward and the whole team showed that they could compete at the highest level.”

This coming weekend (April 16th to 18th) sees the U14 Girls head to Gippsland where Traralgon and Moe will play host 90 teams from across the state.
