COVID-19 Domestic Update June 17th

Updated: Jun 18

Following the Victorian State Government’s announcement yesterday and after further clarification from Belgravia Leisure & Mornington Peninsula Shire, WPBA will begin to activate some programs, training and competition under the Orange 50 Return to sport guidelines. Please see updated restrictions

to familiarise yourself with these guidelines. Unfortunately, based on the current density limit (50 people within a venue) it is not possible to restart some competition nights and training in full capacity. Please see below for changes and impact on your relevant competition. All changes are based on anticipating potential steps taken in regard to further reduction of lockdown restrictions.

Please note that all games that have been missed are actively trying to be rescheduled to be played during the school holidays on the night of regular competition. Games that are unable to be rescheduled will result in a 20-20 draw.

Monday Night Competitions

- Competition is expected to resume on Monday the 28th of June.

- Please note that Somerville Secondary College and Western Port Secondary College is unavailable for the next month which has impacted regular time slots. Games will be played at Civic Recreation Reserve (Mornington) during this time.

- We are looking to run competition through the school holidays on Monday the 28th of June & Monday the 5th of July. This will be dependent on density limits and the Return to sport guidelines enabling a viable return.

- Given the unique timing of these games being in school holidays we understand not all teams will be in a position to play during these weeks. If that is the case, please let me know as soon as possible so I can fixture you a bye for those rounds.

Tuesday Night Competitions

- Competition is expected to resume on Tuesday the 29th of June.

- Competition will be played through the school holidays on the 29th of June and 6th of July. This will depend on density limits and Return to sport guidelines enabling a viable return.

- Given the unique timing of these games being in school holidays we understand not all teams will be in a position to play during these weeks. If that is the case, please let me know as soon as possible so I can fixture you a bye for those rounds.

Wednesday Night Senior Competition

- We intend competition to commence on the 30th of June however given the sheer number of teams in the men’s competition, it will not be possible for every team to play under the Orange 50 guidelines. This is due to the 1-hour time slots required to ensure proper cleaning protocols are satisfied. We are currently exploring a staggered return for the men’s competition which will be confirmed early next week.

Thursday Mid-Week Ladies

- Mid-Week Ladies will commence on the 24th of June under the following guidelines:

- Games will run on Hour time slots

- Masks must be worn when entering and exiting the venue and QR code have to be scanned on entry.

- Players may only arrive 10 minutes before their game.

- Players must leave immediately after their game.

- Strictly NO spectators.

Saturday Morning Junior Domestic

- Competition is expected to return on the 16th of July after the school holidays

- The Somerville Recreation Centre is currently unavailable during the school holidays for competition. This is due to other user groups using the facility, it remains unknown whether these events will go ahead. If we are able to play during the school holidays, all teams will be notified promptly.

- Again, given the unique timing of these games being in school holidays we understand not all teams will be in a position to play during these weeks. If that is the case, please let me know as soon as possible so I can fixture you a bye for those rounds.

Sunday Night Mixed Domestic

- Competition will resume this Sunday the 20th of June.

- Competition will be played through the School Holidays.

The following rules will be enforced:

- Games will run on Hour time slots

- Masks must be worn when entering and exiting the venue and QR code have to be scanned on entry.

- Players may only arrive 10 minutes before their game.

- Players must leave immediately after their game.

- Strictly NO spectators.

Finals Structure

Finals will now be played in one week. These are the following two options we are exploring:

Grand Final: 1st Place v 2nd Place

or

SF 1: 1st Place v 4th Place

SF 2: 2nd Place v 3rd Place earlier in Afternoon/Day/Night

GF: Winner of SF1 v Winner of SF2 later in Afternoon/Day/Night

As you can see, this is a very fluid situation given it is dependent on anticipated changing restrictions and COVID numbers. As more information is available, we will be sure to update you on any changes to season structure and impact on fixtures.

We hope we are able to resume basketball quickly.
